AGE OF REASON
Artist of the month Feb 07'
ICU
EP REVIEW 10/sep/07
Age of Reason have put together another gem this two track ep is packed with lots of adrenaline and with a mixture of metal crushed with rock both in a perfect fusion, The first track " ICU " the use of effects in these track sound great with the concept of the tune Intensive care, the power coming from the guitars are giving the tune its deep metal feel with thumping drums to punch the rhythms into place. The second track " One Thousand Miles " starts of with a more up tempo rock feel with a melodic guitar lick and hard rock banging beats the vocal strenth on this track has to be rated very high as its dynamics are one with the tune, this EP has head banging potential excellent stuff.

BORNDAYS
JUNE 07 BAND OF THE MONTH
Radio city Dublin 25th oct 07
We awarded this four piece group from Dublin band of the month in June and this was the first time to see the guys live, I waited with anticipation till the lead singer Arron took the mic into his hand as the rest of the band kicked in with a upbeat intro, you could feel the adrenaline rush coming from the lads very relaxed but rearing to go, I like the style of Borndays they have a nice rock hard edge to them with catchy pop melodies to smooth the sound into your ears, even there stage presence was on top form. With thumping crash and ride cymbals and electric guitars strumming in perfect time Borndays have a style of playing very upbeat and raw. They gave a super show on the night for a band that is on the ladder to future success.

ITCH
Album review

This is an album with a lot of mood changes and different styles of music from country blues to soft jazz tunes with some fantastic vocals straight from the heart. "HOME" This first track has a great feeling coming from the vocals with a blues tone soaked in passion, guitar on this track is great with some nice tricky melodies giving off a country blues feel. "ITCH" Sounds great with a nice uplifting melody. "GREY SKY BLUE" This has nice vocals that creep in with the piano, kind of a Lennon feel but very well composed and the lyrics are fantastic with a nice sing a long theme. "SLOW MY WHEELS" Good dynamic tune with a great chorus and nice groove in the verses with a flamenco feel kicking in to a country rock tune. " APOLOGISE" This song kicks in with a nice piano theme a real soft love song with some great lyrics and you can hear the passion from the vocals. "SO WRONG" This is a cool short country blues song with a great catchy chorus you will be singing after it is finished. "WE'LL SEE" The vocals sound fantastic on this track cutting through the back street jazz sound and a real sleazy trombone in the mix. "STANDING ON MY OWN TWO FEET" This tune gives off a real gospel feel from the vocals backed up with some great blues slide guitar. "FLYING" The vocals stand out in this tune with some great dynamics and nice lyrics to back up the soft melody. "BIRD IN A CAGE" This final song on the album is a beautiful love song with harmonic vocals and a nice jazz feel on the piano what a nice treat from a wonderful album by Celine Carroll.

HYBRASIL
BAND OF
THE MONTH
OCT 07

(THE MONKEY POLE album review)
This is a five piece band from Wicklow Ireland, The Monkey Pole is a eleven tracks of electronic indie rock melodies and superb vocal abilities, "We got music" has a cool vibe leaks a bit like a happy Mondays tune but with a great rock vocal, this track will get your head moving in all directions. "San fran" great intro with the vocals, the drums holds down a great hypnotic beat, sounds a bit like an early Blur tune but with one step better than them. "Heads up" this tune has more of an 80" feel maybe it's the strait disco beat on the drums or the progressive synth its unique ill say that. "Getchoo" beat for beat note for note and word for word this tune has it all pure ambient with an indie twist. "A million moments" not one of my favs on the album but great vocals this is more of a suttle tune and laid back, maybe it's the chill out song. "Love is in you" this is a great concept for a tune with elements of a great rock guitar riff and indie dynamics its nice the way the vocal does a talking walking vibe through out this tune. "Gorillas" if you like Beck you will like this song it has a great 60's peaceful tone and kicks with a electronic grunge tone coming from the guitar, sweet. "God bless the devil" this is Hybrasil wrapped up in one package electronic synth melodies great solid beat and vocals to die for and I love the eastern vibe in the background. "If you feel" the peace revolution is here this has a great indie rock feel with fantastic vocals and backing vocals the harmony guitars work great, this track is were the keys go free and wild, peace. "When I'm yawning" this is where Beck meets Happy Monday's great vocals and the melody works fantastic with the tune. "Binary love" this song is more of an expression nice and laid back a bit different from Hybrasil has a hint of grunge to the vocals a bit like Nirvana but keeping the trade mark of electronic effects. Overall I found this album both very exciting and very enjoyable to listen to this one goes into the Musicreview cd rack.

The atmosphere on the night was electric when Suddyn hit the stage they hit it with pure explosive passion. The flow of rhythm coming from the piano was played with some classical feel and blending tones. The front man Alan sure was worthy of the grasping presence you could hear from his vocals, his voice was very expressive with a lot of passion in them. Jarrett the guitar player showed off some great moves and played some cracking riffs with a very melodic approach to the songs, I really like his originality very bluesy style but keeping it commercial, The bass player Colly has a real upbeat punk style and can hold the backbone melodies that you can feel from Suddyn. ROCK CHICK NIGHT IN THE VOODOO

DUBLIN UNDERGROUND
ROCK CHICKS PLAY NITE AT THE VOODOO LOUNGE 18th OCTOBER 2007

The nights entertainment had an array of female artists and one male band dressed in drag. From a great point of view there was a showcase of eight acts this is not an easy task trying to balance out the flavor of music through out the night with so many acts. Marc from Dublin Underground certainly pulled the night off with some fantastic music on the rise with live music until the wee hours of 2:30 am, this is one event well worth checking out as it will be one of Dublin’s finest places to find a showcase of emerging talent.
In the order of appearance I will give you a brief review of the night’s entertainment.

EMMA O’REILLY
Emma gave a fine performance expressing her talent from nice cluster of cover songs, her vocal ability is very strong with plenty of passion in her voice. The backing band that stood in with Emma gave off more of an improvisation of the songs. Maybe they did not gel as well together but still pulled the gig of well on the night.

PAMELA CONNOLLY
Pamela has a very unique style in her voice the way that she words and phrases the lyrics are fantastic. Very professional stage presence. The audience was captured by Pamela’s vocals both very strong and very interesting, Pamela has a original style which is very hard to find in most acts that are emerging out there on the scene today. Top marks for Pamela on the night great show.

LEANNE HARTE
Great to see Leanne again I had the pleasure of seeing Leanne at the Balcony TV awards. Leanne played with a full band back then, but tonight Leanne was doing a solo show it was a lot different I would have to say a little more mellow for Leanne, guitar playing was well executed and the tone from her vocal had very folk /blues style but gave an excellent feel to the set. I enjoyed the version of The Rocker “Thin lizzy” very powerful song yet Leanne brought it back to a more passionate blues version of the tune.

LA LOGE
This two piece act gave a great mood change to the night with very elegant style of blues with a jazzy tone, there was some nice licks and slide playing coming from the guitar and the lead singers voice has nice sharp jazz feel, It was a real good laid back show from La Loge.

LITTLE NIGHTMARE
When this band came on the stage you could feel straight away you were going to be rocked they have some sweet melodies mixing them with the elements of ska and punk and grinding them together with metal, the lead singer has a powerful voice and can hold a note with no vein popping emotion. The band however could work a little better on the rhythm section as they where a bit loose but showing the full potential of a superb band.

MURDER PLAN
This five piece band had a plan up their sleeves and when they hit the stage with an abstract approach and with a megaphone in hand, with some great upbeat melodies, this must be part of an intro they use but the concept worked well. They have a nice feel to their music with some reggae/pop and blues melodies, the drummer was a bit loose and dropping a few beats but still held it together, they were jumping around a lot on stage with some good moves and humour towards the crowd.
www.myspace.com/murderplanb

JANEY MAC
Top class show from this band full of confidence, But I must take a bit of the chip off their shoulder. I would like to see them on a better night maybe they were tired or drunk or a mix of the both, the music and what they were trying to put across was almost expressed with raw punk with a fusion of dramatic poetry. The good point I would like to say about this band is they looked like they where enjoying themselves because they got the crowd rocking for sure.

Great show from the girls oops! I mean the guys on the night.

Clair Rooney is a top example of the new generation of those entrepreneuring young female vocalists who are not afraid of their own voice. Playing mostly covers, her voice hits out loud thrilling high notes and then challenges the deeper, softer and more emotive tracks. She brings a jazzy, funky female sound to each song and her voice would work well with a full band to charge her adapting, varying vocal charisma. There are no lazy moments to Clair’s performance, and the lyrics are drenched with changing and seductive dynamics.

CEOLTOIR

Ceoltoir

Whelans Oct 22nd 2007

Ceoltoir announced their album launch in Whelans with a flood of musical tastes from the past students of their Trad course in Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Though most of the acts had to keep their appearance to a minimum, the show was an overwhelming introduction to the subtle flavors of the contemporary Irish Trad scene and we would like to see more.

Fast jigs and reels were promoted by precision and incredible whistle tempo, and these speeding drives were energized by slow low Bodhran beats and running high mandolin kicks. The arrangement of this alluring collection saw everything from energetic full band ballads to a captivating harp solo.

The main act saw Caoimhe Hogarty play both accompanied and acapelo tracks, where the instruments were well arranged to allow her powerful voice to achieve the highest points alone. The high and low ends of this Trad performance were vastly separated from each other, giving the complicated and purposeful task to the melody, to run its mesmerizing compliance between the two. Accomplished flawlessly, the musicians demonstrated that the Irish Trad scene is not only alive and active, but still young and with many places to go.

The Bikini Warehouse

Selection of Songs

Bizarre but interesting, this collection of songs do not follow many traditional mixing trends.
Though epic at times, the songs run more like music scores, touching on various styles and experimenting with different intensities. The songs do not narrate themselves from one stage to the next, but enter into complex experiments with sounds. While the songs lack the momentum and lifts generally associated with such techno styles of music, they do reveal some different, and flatter listening possibilities available to this kind of approach. Very technical and fluid, the style takes on its own explorative charm in this collection.

The Cherries
Vertigo Girl

Vertigo Girl, the debut album by The Cherries is an energetic and lively collection of songs.
While their animated pop sounds and liquid vocals are engaging, the distinct lack of instrument use on most of the tracks leads me to think their style would be more suited to live performance, or video. Their music is without the richness and instrumental arrangement necessary for a good recording quality, and the recorded tracks are quite detached from the atmosphere of their animated song writing. Nevertheless the Cherries are the owners of a highly stylized theatrical quality that would create a lively showcase atmosphere at any gig or festival.

The work behind Thomas Leeb’s guitar technique is quite out of range with that of traditional guitar use. Thomas uses the instrument outside of any normal boundaries. Sounding at times like drums, piano, or cello, the performance is a finely tuned collision of unusual guitar use. These cascading sounds and experimental techniques are brought together beautifully with the detailed precision of a complex but striking arrangement. Thomas puts the same level of ingenuity to his guitar that the under-stage microphones brought to the Riverdance. His stage presence is a solo exploration of guitar tastes; a brilliant and crazy performance everyone should see at least once.

If I'm happy with what I've created, I guess the next step is to share it with others. I enjoy the recording process because it's that little step further into creativity. And then to be able to put it into someone's hand and say 'Hey, take a listen, hope you like it'. That's a good feeling. Or send it out over the ether as the case may be today!!

What are your songs about?

About 3 Mins long!! That's the short answer.. I tend to write about the obvious..' The Human Condition.' How I treat that particular subject varies from song to song.

The heart is a great muse..We all have one, so we can all relate to something written about it. Also, when I'm away, I tend to write about going home. And when I'm home I sometimes write about travelling, moving on..Weird!!

Do you write your own songs?

Yep..I tend to write mostly on my own, with the guitar or at the piano. The lyrics and music are almost always written in tandem.

I have co-written with some really great people..But the thing about co-writing is, It's a bit like going on a blind date, if you know what I mean. You're kinda at the mercy of each other!! Luckily I've had some cool, productive 'blind-dates'!!

Who are your musical influences?

I suppose the original great American Songwriters, Cole Porter, the Gershwins, far too many to mention. Then of course The Beatles, especially McCartney, for his melody in particular. Of course Lennon...Together the most sucessful blind-date of all time!!

Other artist, James Taylor, The Eagles, all at the Brill building, Gilbert O' Sullivan, what a writer!!, Jimmy McCarthy, Walter Hyatt, Lucinda Williams, a few classical heads.... tons of people..

How do you describe your music to people?

Great songs, Great Sentiment, Honesty and a lot of Humour thrown in for good measure

What image do you think your music conveys?

I've been told on more than one occasion that my music is very cinematic. I don't think you can narrow it down to a single image. Different songs convey different emotions. I do think my songs are like short stories. And I do wear my heart on my sleeve alot. But I would like to think that there's an honesty about what I do. Is honesty an image??

What are your immediate music career goals?

The plan is to do more live performances for the latter part of this year. So full houses would be something to aim for!! Get some more songs recorded at a reasonable rate!!

Get my music to as many ears as possible. Oh yeah and shift a few cds in the process!!

What are your long-term career goals?

That's a bit like that horrible question...'Where do you see yourself in five years time?' I suppose to be the best success I can possibly be in this business called Show!! To be able to write great songs, record them and have people buy them would be great. If anything, it puts food on the table.. I would love to get some songs covered by other sucessful artists, that would be a great honour. Grammy, Oscar, etc.... I will always write songs. It's what I do, It's what I am.

How would you define the word “success”?

Happiness, peace of mind..That about sums it up for me.

Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal?

I'm looking for the best route forward in order to get my music out to the world!!

Do you have a demo or press kit, or any promotional materials?

Yep, EPK..It's all on Sonicbids and also on my myspace page. I've also a show on You Tube called CELINE CARROLL '2 NEW SONGS IN A DIFFERENT SHIRT', where I showcase my songs. The songs change on each show as well as the shirts!!

What live performance experience have you had?

With various bands and as a solo artist I guessed I've played in every phone box in this country!! I've played a couple of shows in Chicago. And I've played some shows in Nasville...the Bluebird Cafe, to name one...all us songwriters out there know about that place!!

Currently with the band, we've been playing alot at Bewleys, Dublin.

How do you rate your live performance ability?

I think I'M BLOODY BRILLIANT LOL!!....I do feel that I connect with my audience. I feel it onstage and the feedback from them is alway encouraging. I love performing. So that's the battle won. Whether I'm playing solo or with the band, the vibe is always there. 'When people pay good money to see you, you better be on form'..That's the way I approach every show that I do. You owe it to them. And most times...they come back to see you again.

Have you recorded any previous CDs?

Yep..Two cds..'Catch You As You Fall' and the current cd, 'Itch'. At the moment, I'm in the preproduction stages of the next baby!!

What are your 3 favourite songs and why?

Living, breathing and sleeping music, that's a tough one. But I would say, in no particular order, purely depending on my mood....

1. 'Maybe I'm amazed' by Paul McCartney, for his sheer raw vocal delivery and his passionate lyric..Ya see, the human condition.

2.' The Look Of Love' by Bacharach and David. It has to be Dusty Springfield's version. This seductive lyric and her intimate vocal on this record just blows me away everytime I hear it. It sends me to that special place, if ya know what I mean..Once again..the human condition.

3. It has to be 'The Candyman' by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, performed by Sammy Davies Jnr. I dare anyone to listen to this song and not break out in a smile!! This song has everything going for it. Pure poetry, beautiful imagery, humour, passion, wonderful production and that 'inner child' quality.. After all, I think we're all kids at heart..The only way to survive, especially us songwriters. Yet again, the Human Condition..I rest my case!!

Have you had any previous print or broadcast media exposure or reviews?

Yep, I've been written about..I get airplay every once in a while..when Westlife are in the recording studio. It's all in the blog.. on myspace and on http://www.celinecarroll.com/

Name of Artist/Band?
Kiernan McMullan

What is your background?
I once met chip and dale the rescue rangers in Orlando and I used to watch a lot of Ninja Turtles but other than that its been music. Started with piano lesson and sorta didn't practice but ended up taking it up again at 14 and guitar and a few other instruments. I grew up listening to Hip Hop but as I a got older i started listening to all sorts of rock, pop, jazz, electro, and even drum and bass.

Why do you want to record and release your own music?
Because I want to have an excuse to play it live every night. I love touring and playing live.

What are your songs about?
They can be about anything, I've written songs about Criminals, School, Life, and even Simon Cowell. Also the odd love song, but I cant stand it when you buy a cd and its 15 love songs in a row. There is other stuff to write about....

Do you write your own songs?
Absolutely, I mean if I like another artist I'm always up for a collaboration but I couldnt sing songs every night with any conviction if they were written by someone else and didnt mean anything to me, although we have covered the odd song...

Who are your musical influences?
I've always been more a fan of the American Singer/Songwriter (John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper) scene than the Irish one because for the most part in the states its a lot more upbeat and free to genre-hop. Over here i think they limit themselves a lot to the introspective rainy day music that is great....in moderation! I've also always been a big Hip Hop fan (Jurassic 5, People Under the Stairs) not modern rap which is soulless to a point where its funny but realy lyrical rap; and i've also been getting into stuff like Air and Zero 7 recently. Man every genre has good music in it ya just have to look!

How do you describe your music to people?
Its like going to the airport, arriving late, getting drenched in rain, being held up in customs, but then getting bumped up to first class. (haha) I like it anyway

What image do you think your music conveys?
Well I try to make it as a whole uplifting. I think it tells stories at times, but for the most part i think it can relate to a lot of people

What are your immediate music career goals?
Well at the moment we are in working on album number 2. That should be released here and in America next Spring and from there on in its just doin what I love...touring

What are your long-term career goals?
My one long-term career goal is to have a long term career! I would like to be playing music for the rest of my life. So anything else that comes my way is a bonus as long as I can do this for a living for a long long time!

How would you define the word “success”?
For me it would be being able to do what you want to do forever. In a way its all about being happy with the way things have turned out. You need to be proud of what you've done to be successful. If 5 million people by your records and you dont like what your doing then you've failed. YOU have to like it first.

Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal?
Well I'm looking to release the secong album on various indie labels. To be honest the idea of a Major Label is becoming more and more void these days. There are more and more bands on Indie Labels surpassing the success of the latter.

Do you have a demo or press kit, or any promotional materials?
Yea you can check out the digital press kit at www.sonicbids.com/kiernanmcmullan or just email on noiseannoysmanagement@gmail.com

What live performance experience have you had?
All across the board!(haha) Good and bad, you meet some mad people out there, but more good than bad. I once played in a place the size of a closet unplugged. The gigs like that are really special. The more intimate, the more personal.

How do you rate your live performance ability?
I would like to think that people who come to our shows come away thinkin that the cd doesnt do justice. When I have the band with me its really high energy and fun.

Have you recorded any previous CDs?
Yea I put out my first record, "New Age Robin Hood" in 2006 and we only recently put out the single Borderline into shops and www.downloadmusic.ie

What are your 3 favourite songs and why?
-Paul Simon-You Can Call Me Al
Its the most feel good song ever and just really never gets old
-Dave Matthews Band- Grey Street
Its really just the tip of the ice berg of a great collection
-Gavin De Graw- Meaning
Lyrics!!

Have you had any previous print or broadcast media exposure or reviews?
Yea a bunch check the sonicbids press pack for some of them.

Name of Artist/Band? Andrew Handrick

What is your background? Originally from Dublin, started off playing drums in various bands before going solo, though I did front my own band for about a year before heading off to San Francisco for a while.

Why do you want to record and release your own music? writing music is what I do so it's only natural to want others to hear my songs and the best way of doing that is to release it.

What are your songs about? Relationships, love, life and all the experiences I have had while roaming the planet.

Do you write your own songs? Yes, though lately I have also been collaborating with a few different lyricists which I have been enjoying..

Who are your musical influences? Elvis, The Rolling Stones, REM, The Jam, The Who, Neil Young, Dean Martin, Simon and Garfunkel... the list is endless...

How do you describe your music to people? thats always a tough one.. I usually call it edgy folk rock with literate lyrics... but to be honest they are just songs I write.. other people categorise them...

What image do you think your music conveys? I'd like to think heart felt honesty about life experience.

What are your immediate music career goals? I am currently writing and recording new material for either an EP or an album, have not decided yet.

What are your long-term career goals? to release more albums, tour more in the US, Canada and possibly Japan. Basically to just keep doing what I am doing.

How would you define the word “success”? well on a good day I think success is being able to do what you love.. and I am lucky that I can.

Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal? I would consider either, depending on the deal offered. These days you don't need a deal, just a lot of persistence and a little luck.

Do you have a demo or press kit, or any promotional materials? I have an album "The True Riches Of Life" available at www.cdbaby.com/cd/andrewhandrick and on i-tunes and of course my website www.andrewhandrick.com not to forget good old www.myspace.com/andrewhandrick, there are also some videos there.

What live performance experience have you had? I have played a lot of gigs both here in Ireland and in the US in San Francisco, LA and Austin, Texas.

How do you rate your live performance ability? well I earned my living playing in San Francisco so I guess I put on a pretty good show.

Have you recorded any previous CDs? My debut album "The True Riches Of Life" and a four tarck demo "Time"

What are your 3 favourite songs and why? OK at his moment here's what I can think of:

If I Can Dream by Elvis. He sings it with such passion and lyrically its beautiful.

Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones. It's got such a seedy, raw feel to it..sends a shiver down my spine.

The Only Living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkel. Love the vocals and the whole feel to the song musically..very pure...

Have you had any previous print or broadcast media exposure or reviews? Had a review in Hot Press a while back and various online reviews of my album, also did a TV show in San Francisco which was fun, there is a video of the interview on my myspace page.. www.myspace.com/andrewhandrick and of course some preformances on BalconyTV.com, they are always fun.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH

CHAVAR DONTAE

CHAVAR DONTAE
Here is a up and coming artist from Toledo, Ohio,USA, with his new Ep ONE OF THOSE DAY'S with a mixture of funk and r&b style grooves and has the voice to back it up, a real cool cat with songs like "SLOW DOWN" and "ONE OF THOSE DAY'S" you can feel how much funk Chavar has running in his veins, excellent stuff.
SLOW DOWN - A cool funky beat in this tune with nice groove coming from the gutair, vocals have a great tone with funk elements, a good easy listener with plenty of motion to make you want to dance, sounds great.
WHAT'S YOUR NAME - A laid back tune with a r&b feel to it, gutair has a cool blues feel coming from the riff, vocals comes across with a r&b tone yet very relaxed through out the song with some good lyrics to add to it.

FIGHT LIKE APES

FIGHT LIKE APES
Here is a good band on the scene in Dublin with some catchy tunes and in your face attitude, futuristic melodic punk is a few words to describe what your in for, excellent stuff.
LEND ME YOUR FACE - A good catchy number with a great upbeat melody with a weird 80's synth melody flowing over the song, vocals have all the elements of a true punk voice crusted with a grunge in your face feel to them, this song makes you feel you want to hit something.... great tune.
BATTLESTATIONS - A cool melodic song with a dark side to it, some great work on the synth, vocals could not shout any louder!!!! but that's ok cause it really suits this song very well.

GENGUS REVIEW

This is a very good band with a lot of potential with some good tunes and with a hint of indie rock to there style
ICE COLD RAIN (rough mix) This tune has a nice hook in the bass line it gives the song a cool groove and adds to the melody, the vocals on this track could be better even if its only a rough mix.
YISRISALL (rough mix) Here is a great upbeat song reminds me of a old "JAM" number, very well composed with some great lyrics but yet again the vocal lets this song down too.

FIACH is a dublin artist with a lot of talent both vocal and music, top class.

DIGNITY- A real summer happy song, vocal is excellent over the melody in this tune, a great rhythm strut on the gutair backed up by superb vocal gives it a feel of a soft harmonic tune.

TOO MANY YEARS- A nice laid back tune, vocal flows through the song like drifting over clouds, excellent voice, very strong and has a jazzy feel with a twist of irish trad.

MICHAEL HARGAN
LIVE AT WHELANS,DUBLIN,IRELAND
WED 03/JAN/07
(A true genius in the art of songwriting, excellent vocals full of passion.)
Michael really knows how relax his audience with his witty a funny comments in between his songs giving off the vibe of a true professional musician, with songs like "REMEDY" excellent rhythm gutair with bursting colourfull lyrics, the song went down really well. I had a small chat with Micheal before the gig and he told me he was really tired from all the traveling he was doing, but i could see no effect when played the night without a glitch and controlled the night very well, sadly the night came to a end when he finished out with "MEXICO" another track from his album "CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN US" a real moving tune Michael played the song with a lot of passion you could feel the energy coming from this song, overall it was a superb performance from Michael on the night.
